I needed an excuse to make another cake...New Years! For this cake, I bought some fondant, cake and supplys from Michaels to try that route. The zebra cake turned out delicious! I really liked how moist it was. It was the Duff brand zebra cake with a yummy butter cream frosting I already had a recipe for. The fondant was also Duff and was so much easier to roll out then what I had made from scratch. I also watched a video last night that said to use corn starch instead of more powdered sugar to coat when rolling and it really seemed to make a difference. I played around with some wire too, Im not sure if Im crazy about it.
I enrolled in a cake decorating class at Michaels for basic stuff. I feel that Im learning so much on my own, just from baking; trial and error. But I am also looking forward to learning from expirienced people and getting some tips I may not have figured out on my own.
Looking for another excuse to make a cake. :)
